Welcome to PS 157!

We are thrilled to have your family join us for the 2021-2022 academic year! We have many new, exciting, and supportive experiences planned for your child.

The start of 3K or Pre-K can be both an exciting and anxious time, for parents and children alike. Our staff will work diligently and with compassion to make this school year memorable for you and your little one.

Communication

Communication is key as we begin this partnership. We have various ways to keep you informed and involved in your child's education.

  • After registration is complete, you should receive a text from ParentSquare within 48 business hours. ParentSquare provides direct communication between you, the school, teachers, and school leadership. Whether you download the app (highly recommended) or use the website, you will receive calendars, daily updates, emergency information, class messages, and individual messaging from staff through ParentSquare. You can also change the settings to have any messages sent and translated in the language of your choice.

Things to Know

  • 3K & PK parents escort their child to the classroom door every day (second floor)

  • Students have breakfast and lunch daily in the classroom.

  • Students should wear closed-toe sneakers daily (Velcro is best!)

  • We do not require a uniform. Some students choose to wear khaki pants/skirts and blue polo shirts.

  • School staff is currently on vacation until August 30th so there may not be someone to answer your call in August. Email or ParentSquare is the best way to reach us.

  • There will be scheduled days and events that allow families to remain in the classroom and participate in learning. We ask that during morning drop off you do not remain in the hallway or classroom as we help your child adjust to their new routine.

Getting Ready

  • Talk frequently with your child about how exciting school will be.  Speak about making new friends, meeting their teachers, and ensuring them that you will always come to pick them up at the end of the day.

  • Read children's books about the first day of school.

  • Walk past the school and point out the building to them.  Visit the part on Taffee Street and let them play there.

  • Communication via ParentSquare will continue and become more frequent as we get closer to the start of the school year.

    • This will include information regarding arrival, dismissal, classroom assignments, special events, and much more!
